NATO'S STRATEGIC CONCEPT
The aim of the project is to analyse the content of NATO’s new strategic concept and to forecast its possible impacts on Estonian security. By studying these issues thoroughly and systematically, the project will lay a foundation for critical and informed debates on the future of NATO and transatlantic security relations both in Estonia and in the wider region of Northern and Central Europe. The project will contrast the Alliance’s new strategic concept with recent changes in the security strategy of the European Union (EU). The project will thus provide Estonian foreign and security policymakers with an in-depth analysis of the latest developments in the key security organisations of the Euroatlantic community and enable Estonia to base its security policy plans on more exact information. For that purpose, the project manager will liaise with relevant officials of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence.

"NEW EUROPE" IN THE WAR ON TERROR: FIVE YEARS AFTER THE INVASION OF IRAQ
The aim of the project is to examine the current position of the political and military elites of the “New Europe” in the context of the global war on terror, considering that almost five years have passed since the beginning of the crisis in Iraq. To what extent have the arguments that supported the attack by the USA in 2002-2003 been reassessed? How do the new EU members from Central and Eastern Europe treat their role in transatlantic security relations and in the entire US-led war on terror now that five years have gone by since the opening of its “first act” in Iraq?
